The Annual Latino Male Retreat seeks to empower Latino male students to realize their academic, career and personal goals during their college years at CSUCI. As the number of Latino/as attending college and attaining degrees has increased steadily in recent years, the proportional representation of Latino males continues to lag behind. Today,  Latino males have the lowest high school graduation rates and the lowest college enrollment and completion rates of any subgroup. CSUCI is a Hispanic Serving Institution with 53% students that self-identify Latino/Hispanic, however as of fall 2018 Latina females constituted 34% of total enrollment (2,253) compared to Latino/Hispanic Males 14% of total enrollment (925). In terms of retention rates, first-time freshman has lower retention rates than their female counterparts and transfer male students.  To increase retention of Latino males, this retreat connects students to resources, support services, and networks to succeed and graduate.
