Professor Alamillo assisted with the research on the American Experience premiere of Flood of the Desert. The title borrowed from Carey McWilliams (in Southern California: An Island on the Land) tells the story of the St. Francis Dam disaster, which not only destroyed hundreds of lives and millions of dollars’ worth of property; it also washed away the reputation of William Mulholland, the father of modern Los Angeles, and jeopardized larger plans to transform the West.  The documentary also features the remarkable story of the Mexican family, The Lunas who lost five family members and many survived because of Irene Luna who gathered her children and clanged to a mattress for dear life as they sailed the Santa Clara River. You can also stream the documentary in English and in Spanish.  They will include a Spanish web page with the film description and link to watch the Spanish version.
